Rates as of October 12, 2026, from each platform’s published US fee page. Estimates for a single-card US order; your statement is the final word.
How each platform charges
- eBay (trading card categories): 13.25% of the order total, which includes shipping and sales tax, up to $7,500, and 2.35% above that. Plus $0.30 per order, or $0.40 when the order is over $10.
- TCGplayer (Level 1-4 marketplace seller): 10.75% commission on the card (at most $75 per card) and on shipping, plus a 2.5% + $0.30 transaction fee on the order total.
- Whatnot (US, standard tier, trading card games): 8% commission on the card price only, with no commission on the part of an order over $1,500 while that offer runs. Plus 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing on the full order. Higher-volume sellers get lower commission tiers.
What the calculator leaves out
- Promoted listings, store subscriptions, international orders and other optional fees.
- Sales tax itself: the buyer pays it and the platform sends it on, so it is not your money. It only matters because some fees are charged on it.
- Refunds and returns, which can keep part of the fee.
Profit is more than one sale
Profit here is one sale against what you paid for that card. Across a year, what you paid includes grading fees, supplies and the cards from a box you split. That running total is the cost basis you report when you sell; see taxes for card sellers.
